Drive Systems and Control Specialist


Our client is seeking a Drive Systems and Control Specialist to join their crew at their industrial steel fabrication and manufacturing facility in the Buffalo, NY area.
 
REPORTING TO:  Reliability Manager

SUMMARY: 
  • Identifying and resolving control and drive system issues related to PCS / SCADA and PLC programs
  • In the continuous effort to maintain and improve our process this role will be key in the automation and control circuit’s related improvements. The individual will be a team player who’s focus is our customers (operations) supporting daily troubleshooting and repairs that would require automation or electrical support. Organized to complete projects on time as well as look for ways to improve the existing process with future projects.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Testing electrical equipment for proper functioning using various electrical testing equipment
  • Conducting predictive maintenance activities including but not exclusive to thermography
  • Meeting the Key Performance Indicators / Metrics for this role
  • Monitoring and troubleshooting and determining the stability within the control system
  • Provide technical support for developing and improving the process
  • Assist in the selection and configuration of components
  • Developing plans with the Maintenance and Operations Teams to resolve any issues
  • Leading in the problem solving of any measurement or control problem ( PLCs, drives, sensors )
  • Developing, troubleshoot, and implementing changes in collaboration with the Maintenance and Operations Teams in order to maintain and/or improve process lines automation
  • Controlling downtime by involving production workers in the company’s scheduled preventative maintenance plans
  • Actively participates in problem-solving activities related to operation of equipment in the facility on both a preventive and reactive basis
  • Participating in or lead continuous improvements and problem solving initiatives
  • Performing routine electrical repair items as required
  • Assist in the development of SCADA applications
  • Update electrical schematics or documents to reflect changes made
  • Must meet the physical demands of this position
  • Other duties as assigned for which he/she has received required training, possesses qualifications and/or is considered competent
  • Assisting in development of the maintenance program and liaison with OEM vendors, suppliers and external services
  • Participating in plant safety, health and environmental programs
 
 
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience with instrumentation and automated controls in an industrial manufacturing environment
  • Proficient is design, program, testing and troubleshooting PLC’s
  • Thorough understanding of Internet protocols and troubleshooting
  • Troubleshooting and programming of VFD’s
  • Documentation, to include change control for changes to the control system devices
  • Working knowledge in reading electrical control system schematics and or programming logic
  • Minimum three (3) years PCS / SCADA practical experience
  • Computer skills including skill in MS Office, Access, PCS/SCADA, PLC and HMI programming - Allen Bradley and Siemens essential
  • Practical working knowledge of Motor controls (A.C., D.C.), Motion servo controls,( Allen Bradley)
  • BACKGROUND AND DRUG SCREEN REQUIRED
